Wildlife

There are many wild animals that call the area around the beach their home and there are quite a variety of animals such as: otters, orcas, wild cats, Whimbrel, Red-throated Divers, Dunlin, Golden Plover, Merlins, Bonxies, Skootie Alans, Dunters, Tirricks, Herring gulls, Fulmars, Black Guillemots, Puffins, Shags, Guillemots, & Kittiwakes.

Yell is one of THE BEST places in the whole of the UK to see otters, which is why Hugh Miles chose to film his award winning documentary film, “On the Track of the Wild Otter” here, otters are common in Yell because: they have a plentiful supply of food, a low coastline that's very peaty for carving holes into, & freshwater for having a bath in. The most common seal types are the Grey and Common seals, there are also quite a number of other marine animals such as the: Pilot whale, Killer whale and Harbour Porpoise.

The wildlife needs to be respected just as much as we do because would you like it if someone just came into your house, littered it with rubbish and left again would you be ok with that? Of course not so when you come here treat the wildlife how you want to be treated.

And please do the whole world a favour when you come and remember to take rubbish away with you when you come because when the rubbish goes back out to sea then it will break down and go into the fish, and then we end up eating it which None of us want so please please do this.
